New Jersey Boating Safety Education Bill Signed into Law On Tuesday, January 9th, Governor Codey signed into law bill A2624, which will require all persons operating a vessel to pass a boating safety education course. The law will allow for a four-year phase-in by age group that will be effective on June 1, 2006 and end on June 1, 2009 and includes a number of other changes to the current boating safety education law that has been in place since 1996. The MTA/NJ has supported and worked on this legislation for the past three years. Thanks to the efforts of MTA/NJ’s lobbying firm, Princeton Public Affairs Group, the MTA/NJ was successful in ensuring that a number of recommendations proposed by the Association remained in the bill including one that mandates that the course curriculum meet standards set by the National Association of Boating Law Administrators.
Additional details on this new law will are included in the January/February 2006 Legislative Update posted below. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Melissa Danko, MTA/NJ Executive Director at 732-292-1051.
